Prints
Several friends and family members have asked for prints of my photos, so I've made a few available through a printing service as greeting cards, with all proceeds going to Doctors Without Borders. Those available now are in this store. If there's one you'd like printed but don't see in the store yet, let me know which one and I'll gladly make it available.
Only cards? How about prints?
I started with greeting cards but I could add other types of cards and prints. If there's a particular kind you're interested in, let me know. (The greeting cards are on heavy cardstock with a glossy finish.)
In addition to Zazzle, I've tried Fine Art America and Social Print Studio (SPS). I like the matte finish SPS uses but I know some prefer glossy, and SPS is tricker to order from unless you have the photo yourself, so I went with Zazzle for now.
If you know of other printing services you like, I'd welcome recommendations.
How much does Doctors Without Borders get per card?
The company that prints and sells the greeting cards (called Zazzle) charges me $2.91 each and I've priced them at $4.95 each, so what I will donate is the difference of $2.04 per card.
When I receive payments (which they issue whenever earnings reach a threshold of $100), I'll donate them immediately. For transparency, every time I donate, I will post (here) the receipt from Doctors Without Borders and the statement I receive showing sales transactions.
Why do this?
When a friend first asked me for prints, I found a printing service and, at first, I set prices at cost because I wanted this to be just a way to share the images, not to earn income from them. But that felt unfair to artists selling photos whose art is their livelihood. That gave me the idea of raising prices to normal minimum levels but donating the profits to charity.
I picked Doctors Without Borders for now because I believe in the cause and it's recognized as a well-run organization.
